She went on to earn her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. — one of the leading historically Black universities in the United States. During her time there, she not only honed her technical and creative skills but also became a member of the Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society, an achievement that reflected her academic excellence and dedication to her craft.

After graduating, Raquel made a deliberate choice to return home to Barbados. This decision marked the beginning of a career focused not just on creating buildings, but on crafting spaces that tell the story of the Caribbean identity — rooted in culture, climate, and community. She began her professional journey as an Architectural Assistant at Tony Brooks Architect, where she gained invaluable on-the-ground experience in local design challenges. Her early work focused on residential and commercial projects that balanced modern design principles with the region’s tropical realities — high humidity, heat, and the need for natural ventilation.

Her growth within the firm was swift and well-earned. In just a few years, she advanced to the position of Associate Architect, where she began to lead projects that highlighted her forward-thinking approach. Her designs stood out for their thoughtful integration of local materials, open-concept layouts, and sustainable design practices — elements that align perfectly with global conversations about green architecture.

In 2020, Raquel took the bold step of establishing Front House Design Studio, her own architectural firm. As Principal Architect, she has continued to push creative and environmental boundaries. The studio’s mission centers around reimagining Caribbean spaces — celebrating natural beauty while addressing modern needs.
